Question #2:

Will I be able to stay a vegetarian?

I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 3 weeks now, and it's so far so good. I was asking a vegetarian friend if she had any suggestions for my new found diet, she gave me some tips but also told me she is going back to eating some meat due to lack of protein (she has been a vegetarian for 3-4 years)....

I don't want to have the same fate as her, is it humanely possible for me to not get a protein deficiency?

Here is a typical daily diet for me (bear in mind I"m trying to lose weight so if it seems a little low in calories thats why)...

Breakfast: 6 oz nonfat plain yogurt, 1 pack of plain oatmeal and 3 tbsp's of raw honey all mixed together.

Midmorning snack: 2 tbsp's of peanut butter

Lunch: 4 oz of whole grain pasta with tomato juice as a substitute sauce b/c its lighter with a salad (no dressing cuz I hate dressing) with romain lettuce, spinach, 1 whole tomato, and some raw baby carrots, and 1 veggie burger pattie.

Afternoon snack: piece of fruit

Dinner: Grilled cheese sandwhich (I use cooking spray intsead of butter) 2 slices of whole grain bread with 3 slices of fat free american cheese (I checked the label no hidden animals), with either a cup of lentil soup OR a serving of vegetarian baked beans.

Evening snack: piece of fruit

I also have 6 eggs a week. It's not the exact same every day, but this is pretty typical for me. Am I lacking anything? If yes, what do you suggest?

Thanks!
*CORRECTION* For the midmorning snack, that is 1 tbsp of reduced fat peanut butter, sorry for the confusion!
Serious answers only please, sarcastic ones will be reported as abuse.
And for the dinner, the grilled cheese sandwhich consists of 3 slices of fat free cheese and 2 slices whole grain bread, not in addition to, thanks!

Question #3:

Does anyone know if there is a generic verison of this formula?

We're using Nestle Good Start Protect Plus. My daughter is responding very well to it, took to it quickly and is digesting it perfectly. It is 21 for a 24 oz can. I know lots of generic brands are just as good, but what would be the generic version of this particular brand? Like I tried looking at walmarts parents choice formula but it's first ingredient is nonfat milk, whereas on my nestle it first says whey protein concentrate (from cow's milk, ....) heck might be the same thing for all I know but I'm unsure. Help?

Question #8:

Why are my parents so darn paranoid?

They ALWAYS accuse me of being anorexic. They just don't get it; I really do eat a lot, just in the form of constant snacking rather than infrequent, large meals. The exception is breakfast, whereas I consume the majority of the day's calories and other nutrients. However, they are never present as I eat in the morning. I get really full, although I usually grab a bit of fruit and a source of protein as a mid-morning snack, ya know; just in case. Consequently, I lack an appetite during lunch. I'd prepare some fruits and vegetables, along with some nuts or other source of protein. When the clock hits 2 or 3, I feel hungry, so I'll have a small bowl of cereal or anything I find relatively healthy or convenient. Not a few hours later, I find myself craving more food. By now, I ate quite a few calories, so I'll just eat something low calorie in the fear of gaining weight. Finally, dinner arrives not too long later. Maybe, I'll have a salad with more protein; anything that will let me go to bed without a gurgling stomach or tons of guilt will do. My parents then scream at me for being anorexic, then go like,"That's all you eat? How stupid, and you think you're healthy?" Of course, from their point of view (as of seeing me just at lunch or dinner), I don't eat much. But, they refuse to believe me when I attempt to explain that I eat quite a bit at other times. I should also include that I am almost 15, at 5"2 and 112 pounds. In addition, I exercise most to all days of the week, and I consider myself to be muscular for a female.

Here's what I ate today:

Morning: -Oatmeal (1/2 cup oats and 1 cup water)
-Nonfat, plain yogurt (1 cup)
-Watermelon (2 cups, diced)
-Raisins (3 tablespoons)
Snack: -Sunflower Seeds (1/2 cup, roasted, unsalted)
-Cucumber (1 cup, slices)
Lunch: -Corn (1 Medium ear, about 180 grams including husk)
-Egg White (1/3 cup liquid egg whites, microwaved)
-White Peaces (100 grams, sliced)
-Cereal (1/2 cups Kashi Unsweetened Whole Grain Puffs and Sesame)
Snack(s):-Cereal (3/4 cups Bran Flakes)
-Tomatoes (100 grams, sliced)
Dinner: -Spinach (1 cup, shredded)
-Mixed Lettuce (3 cups, also shredded)
-Low fat Cheese (1.5 ounces, shredded)

...Really, do I SOUND anorexic to you?

Question #16:

Has anyone noticed that GenMills changed Honey Clusters Fiber One ingredients?

I asked this question differently before and received a couple responses to it. There was no way that I could figure out how to add more information to it like we were able to do before on Yahoo Answers. Both of the respondents asked what exactly were the changes and since I happened to have a couple old boxes of the cereal before they made the changes, I figured I'd put it out there for all to see.

From what I can see from the ingredient list, the biggest change would have to be that General Mills replaced "Wheat Bran" in the original recipe with "Corn Starch". Corn Starch was and is still present in the "Wheat Bits" ingredient common to both recipes. But, the Wheat Bran has been removed. The second big change I notice is that they also removed "walnut meal", "almond meal" and "brown sugar molasses". Those are big omissions that I'm sure very much contributed to the great flavor of the cereal.

Here is the listing, in order, just as printed on the box, of the ingredients in the OLD recipe:

Whole Grain Wheat, Corn Bran, Wheat Bran, Inulin, Sugar, Whole Grain Oats, Crisp Oats(Rice Flour, Whole Grain Oats, Sugar, Malt Extract, Salt, BHT[Preservative]), Brown Sugar, Corn Syrup, Toasted Oats(Whole Grain Oats, Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Soybean Oil, Honey, Brown Sugar Molasses), Salt, Wheat Bits(Whole Grain Wheat, Corn Starch, Corn Flour, Sugar, Salt, Trisodium Phosphate, Baking Soda, Color Added), Barley Malt Extract, Honey, Modified Corn Starch, Malt Syrup, Tripotassium Phosphate, Color Added, Cinnamon, Natural And Artificial Flavor, Sucralose, Walnut Meal, Almond Meal, Nonfat Milk, Vitamin E(Mixed Tocopherols), and BHT Added To Preserve Freshness.

These ingredients are in order with the parentheses exactly as it shows on the box. Go ahead and compare it to the new recipe on the new box(which also looks different, lighter color).

What gets me is that they don't even have to tell you that they changed it. Sometimes on some things you buy, you notice where companies put "new and improved" on the package. That isn't on this package. That's because General Mills didn't improve this cereal any and they know it. They're hoping no one would notice. Well, people have noticed. I wrote an email to General Mills through their website griping about the changes to this cereal and have yet to receive a response other than the automatically generated response that they received my message and that someone would respond back soon.
I think anyone who likes this cereal, and I mean the OLD recipe, should message General Mills through their website and let them know you don't like the changes made to this "what use to be good" cereal. Yes, I know it's only a cereal and doesn't rank way up there in the grand scheme of things. But, it was a good cereal and its not anymore. It's pretty much like many of the other so called "healthy cereals" and is closer to eating cardboard now. People have power if they use it.
MizSwee........couldn't care less about what you think. Why would you bother injecting your thoughts into something that doesn't concern you. Go elsewhere with your negativity. And maybe try and get a life and not spend all your time on your computer answering Yahoo questions (Level 5).
Thanks John for chiming in with your ".." response. Rest assured I'll give you the thumbs up best response when the question closes. I appreciate you not leaving MizzSwee.......as the lone response.

Question #17:

Do I Eat A Normal Amount? Healthy Eaters, Please Help?

I have an eating disorder and struggle with knowing what is a normal amount versus too much or too little. I feel like I eat normally, yet I am underweight (5'4 81lbs and 19 years old). This is what I ate today (it varies, but it's mostly the same types of foods):

Breakfast
-6oz low fat yogurt
-1/2c Kashi cereal
-10 almonds
-blueberries/strawberries

Lunch
-spinach salad with 1/2c chickpeas, 1/4 c. 2% shredded mozzarella, cucumber, and about 2T hummus
-slice of wheat toast

Snack (I usually have an afternoon snack, but didn't eat one today bc I woke up late/ate my meals late)
-usually something like an apple with 1T peanut butter

Dinner
-black bean burger on 1 slice 9-grain bread with ketchup
-small salad with spinach, carrots and 2T hummus
-watermelon

Snack (what I plan on eating later)
-6oz nonfat flavored greek yogurt with a handful of cereal mixed in

I also drank water throughout the day.

Is this a normal/healthy amount? I feel like I eat pretty normally, but I don't know. I'm supposed to be gaining weight, but I don't really know how to eat more without feeling guilty. Please help?

Thanks for your time
Btw, I am NOT vegetarian...I just happened not to eat any meat today. I eat chicken/turkey, but no red meat

Also, I had a few avocado slices with dinner too. I forgot to add that
I also don't do very much physical activity (I used to belong to a gym but I don't anymore). On most days I like to try to at least take a short walk, but other than that I haven't been working out :(
