Question #1:
Thinking about becoming a vegetarian?
I've been thinking about it for a while now. Can anyone tell me the benefits of becoming a vegetarian, and how to start? Is it a slow process to become a vegetarian? Or can you just change you diet all at once? Thanks! I really appreciate any information and advice.I'm doing it for health reasons.
Question #2:
Does anyone have experience with a nut-free diet for parrots?
I am very allergic to nuts and peanuts, so obviously I can't have those around the house. I am, however, also looking to buy a parrot. I know parrots are often fed nuts, and obviously I want to give it a healthy and happy life - but without nuts (or peanuts). This has to be possible as there definitely are good replacements for nuts available - but there doesn't seem to be much information on replacing it in a bird's diet. I did find this Click Here thread, and these people seem to know what they are talking about. Still, I'd like a second opinion. I am willing to cook for the bird, I have to cook a lot due to my allergies anyway. I don't want to put it on an unhealthy seed diet or anything along those lines, I really want it to be happy and healthy.Question #3:
what is the 5 factor diet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1?
what is the 5 factor diet ??how do you go about doing it ??
is it possible to eat chocolate ??? (have a sweet tooth )
thanks for any information !!!
Question #4:
What would cause a rabbit to gain weight so fast?
LOL okay, let's try this again. I accidentally posted this in the wrong section earlier, haha.My brother has a 3 year old rabbit, we've had him 2 years. He's always been just an average size, I guess. Never really overweight or anything.
But all of a sudden (my brother said within about 1-2 weeks) he gained a lot of weight. He's huge! When you pick him up, his belly is nothing but fat.
The bunny's diet hasn't changed. He doesn't get much exercise (and never really has). He gets out of his cage every now and then, but even then the bunny just sits in a corner and doesn't hop around or anything.
I'm really not involved with his rabbit at all so I really don't know if he gained weight that fast.. That's just what my brother says. Personally, I think he should go to the vet, but my brother says it's just because he's not getting enough exercise.
My brother has been taking him out of the cage everyday for an hour or two for a few weeks now, but there hasn't been a difference in his weight.
Thanks for any information or advice.
Any ideas as to what would cause this? Could it be a medical condition?
How can we get him to run around more and get more exercise?
We try to encourage him and stuff, but he's afraid of everything O.o
He's also getting less of his pellet food.
The rabbit is male. And even then, he's neutered AND he has never been around another rabbit. He's either in a cage, or in a secluded room.
Question #5:
Correct dose of Omega 3 in dog's diet?
So, I was reading that adding some Omega 3 to my dog's diet would improve her skin and coat. She currently has some dandruff. I gave her a bath with a moisturizing shampoo, however, it hasn't seemed to help. I brushed her once she dried and it only seemed to aggravate the condition. She doesn't act like it bothers her, but I want to make sure she's healthy.Any way. I was wondering how much I should give her on a daily basis? I haven't been able to find any informative articles clearly stating correct dosages, etc.
She's a labrador/terrier mix, two years, approximately 25-30 pounds.
I was also thinking of supplementing my boyfriend's Shar Pei's diet with additional Omega 3, as his skin often bothers him. According to what I've read, it could be of great help.
He's three years old, approximately 55-60 pounds.
Any additional information/suggestions would be appreciated.
Question #6:
Any good free weight loss websites or videos?
I dunno where to look, I'm really overweight and I don't have the money for dvd programs like P90X or INSANITY.I need some free websites I can look at or some videos that'll help me lose weight quickly and efficently. I also need a diet plan and if I do lose weight I want to also build some muscle so I need alot of information. Or if you guys want you can tell me what you did to lose weight, as long as you can also tell me the amount of time it'll take to see results. And yes i'm willing to change my lifestyle and everything so basiclly just tell me what I need to do.
Oh I almost forgot, I'm 18 and I'm about somewhere between 270-280 pounds so what's the recommeded amount of weight I should get to? And how long will it take to get there and after that, how long will it take to build muscle?
Or unless, I should really save up the money for the P90X? is it that good?

Does this sound like an eating disorder?
I am worried that I may be developing an eating disorderI have been thinking a lot about my diet and my weight loss and here are the facts:
before I was a 15 year old girl who weighed at her most 9 stone 6. Now, just 6 months later, I weight 7 stone 3 at 5 foot 3.
This has been done by at first a ridiculous diet of vegetables blended for breakfast, 3 oranges during the day and then soup for tea. I realised this was ridiculous and then after about 2 months changed it to a healthier diet of blended vegetables for breakfast, tuna sandwiches (drained from oil) on brown bread and then for tea a salad generally.
However, now I eat the exact same thing daily: a small bowl of all bran, I nibble on one piece of ham, a handufl of strawberries during the day and then for tea a ready meal from Weight watchers.
I panic if I eat anymore than this, weight myself between 7-10 times a day and worry about a little increase. I drink about 3 litres of diet coke daily to fill myself up and never eat or drink after 6 so that when I wake up, I am as light as I possibly could be. I have developed a ridiculous interest in calories and nutritional information of food and have found myself unbelievably interested in what my friends eat and work out their calorie content in a diet. I plan a day ahead of exactly what I eat and try to get out of eating with friends/family. My mum has just told me that she plans to make a low fat feta cheese, onion and tomato salad for lunch tomorrow and i'm getting really upset about it, the thought of that feta ( even if the low fat version) going into my body just disgusts me. I don't do any excercise however.
I realise this is a long piece but I wanted to lay down all the details. Does this sound like just obsessive eating or an eating disorder?
Question #9:

I am seeing a plastic surgeon for a possible breast reduction Monday...?
Two Questions:1. Is there any way to lose 5-8 lbs in 4 days? how? i tried the lemonade diet, but couldn't stomach the lemonade; is there any other way, preferably that won't make me feel like crap?
2. I have a vacation planned for the end of October, and I'm concerned that the Dr won't perform surgery quickly enough for me to heal completely; how long after the decision to do a breast reduction is made do they actually do the surgery? and how long is the recovery time & what is recovery like?
ok, I asked more than 2 questions, I know, but I need a lot of information...please help me by answering what you can, hopefully all the questions.
thanks in advance! :)
no, waiting until after my vacation is not an option; I am in immense pain & I do not want to be doped up on prescription strength pain medication the whole time I am on my trip. I am barely 5'3'' & have DDD breasts; for example, put 2 bowling balls in a backpack. Now, put the backpack on backwards (ie: balls on chest). Then, carry that around all day everyday for 6 years. I've waited long enough; I'm done waiting. I don't want to be in pain any longer.
Question #11:
trying to lose weight and get in shape this semester?
i am a 20 year old male. Im 6 ft 1 in tall and weigh aproximately 210 lbs. i have had heart surgery twice, once when i was 2 and again when i was 12 to replace the aorta valve, and i also have an internal defibulator/pacemaker because i have suffered from a heart arythmia episode. i am looking to getting into shape this semester. my goal is to drop down to around 180 lbs and be in good shape. i have begun a jogging/walking routine of 2.9 miles each morning. i am not really dieting so much as just watching not to eat junk food and trying to cut out snacking during the day and drinking alot of water. Does anyone have any tips as to possible easy diet plans and tips to get into good enough shape to actually run/jog the miles along with really any health tips in general. i know there is lots on the internet but they really are more about quick soloutions that ive found or for people more in shape than i am looking to get ripped. all answers/comments are appriciated and i realize alot of people wont know much about the heart condition so if you don't know how to specifically tailor your answer to it don't worry and just answer based on other information. it really hasn't slowed me down so far.Question #12:
Question about Medicine?
I have been having pains in my entire body it will start at my ankles and work its way up to my shoulders. Usually when this happens I can walk around and it will subside. Well Saturday August 21st around 9:15 PM I was getting ready to go to bed when I started getting the feeling in my ankles so I thought if I got up and walked around it would go away well it didn't it got worse to the point when I laid back down I couldn't get up again for the pain was so bad.So I ended up having to call an ambulance and went to ER. They took blood and ran some tests but I haven't heard back yet they said it could be a pinched nerve or it could be fibromyalgia. They want me to follow up with my regular doctor but I can't afford going because of the bill from the ER and the ambulance bill.
On August 24th, 2010 I went to the doctor to see if they can figure out what is going on. Not sure how long I will be there or what they are going to do. They took blood, took an x-ray of my back and an ultrasound of both my legs--to check for blood clots and other things also so I am just waiting on the results from that. I haven't heard back from the doctor yet as to what the results were from the tests but will update when I know more. I cannot sit for long periods of time either. Also I am type 2 diabetic and have been since 1998 and am on insulin and diet to control that.
They have prescribed the medicine called Neurontin for me to take and I was wondering if anyone heard of this medicine and what the side effects and the like are with taking this medicine. Thank you for the information and support. .
I don't need to be preached at or told to try alternate things I am just asking if anyone has been on this medicine and how it has worked for you.
Question #13:
Pet rat making throwing up sound?
I'm aware that rats cannot vomit, and I've never seen this little guy do it, but the sound he is making is akin to it. A little history here: just got two little male rats last monday. They have a big cage which I keep clean (I've cleaned it 3 times since getting them) and a solid plastic wheel which I'm not sure they have figured out wtf it is yet =D. Both are energetic and are somewhat skittish, though with some treats and patience I've gotten them to at least accept that I am not going to eat them. Anyhow, both of them sneeze randomly (something I've heard is associated with stress, particularly getting used to their new home) but one of them is making sort of a... I dunno, if it was a cat I would say it was about to cough out a hairball. :-P However, not being a cat I can't quite specify what it is the little guy is doing.Diet information: Nutriphase Gold Mouse and Rat Formula
Treats: Nutriphase yogurt drops and PLAIN Cheerios.
The rat in question isn't too interested in the cheerios. He seems to like the yogurt drops. When he eats, he digs through the entire food bin and grabs only the dried corn. -_-'
The cage has a plastic base. When I clean it I take 3 steps. Step 1 is soap and water in the tub. Step two is lysol disinfectant spray. Step 3 is once again soap and water to get that lysol out.
If any of you know what that sound might be or if you guys see anything I am doing wrong PLEASE let me know. I'm new to rats and have done my best to keep the little guys happy/healthy but I could very well be making a stupid mistake that I'd like to catch early. Thanks again. :)
They sleep a pretty good bit but the rat in question does not seem to exhibit any loss in energy that I can tell. I don't have much to compare him to except his roommate, but when he's up and moving he climbs all over the place, including me when I open the cage! They wrestle a pretty good bit (though the sound making rat always loses and then squeeks as the other stands on him). If it wasn't for the sound I would have no inclination that something is wrong.

Been having stomach pains?
I've been having stomach pains and nausea for the last 6 months, I'm a healthy 18 year old. It's not constant, it comes and goes throughout the day and doesn't happen everyday but it is most days. I haven't spotted a pattern or anything that could have caused it, my diet is the same as always. I eat enough food and drink plenty of water. I know I'm not pregnant. The Doctor did a stomach examination and a urine test and nothing came up and I'm having to do blood tests. I haven't found any information about it on the internet, has anyone got any ideas what this could be?Question #16:

Question #17:
Help with a work out schedule?
I'm going to be a sophomore in high school and obviously going to be busy with school. I need to start getting active and I know it. I would like a detailed weekly schedule for a workout plan. A certain amount of time to do a certain activity on what days and what time. I don't want any diet thing for food. Just activities. I have a trail near my house that I can run, jog, or walk on. I have my own room where I can work out and take my laptop down there to look at. I don't have anything like weights or treadmills. No accessories to help me work out. Just the information you can give me or website suggestions. I don't want people to say, well, do this on this day and this on this day. No. I want a DETAILED schedule. Thanks!Ok well I guess only one of the first three people that answered my question actually READ IT. 1) I don't know yet.
2) No.
3) Not very much. Maybe an hour and a half.
4) It varies.
5) Around 10:30 or 11:00
6) No I don't get enough time to do that. Before or after school would work fine.
Thanks for your help Ricky. And thanks for being rude Derrick. That was wonderful to hear. =] If I didn't plan on using these tips, I wouldn't have wasted MY time asking.
Thank you Jesse! Omg I feel so great about getting started just reading through that! You're amazing! Thank you so much! =D
Question #18:
Diet,Suicide,etc Please/Help/Read :P?
Last week I only had a shake, two granola bars,Maybe three glasses of orange juice orange juice,a small piece of pizza and water. All last week. That's not really under the amount of calories I need. I'm not starving my self but I sometimes get this feeling where I want to be under weight. Do you not say no you don't because that will really piss me off. I know its not a good thing. I am not asking you to give me a lecture about that. And also sometimes I think about suicide. I wish I could just poof away. This is actually quite often. Again I would NEVER commit suicide. NEVER. I know how much it would hurt my family and friends.I'm 13. If you need information just tell me.

Don't say therapy or talk to someone please please please. I am not here for you guys to tell me that. I am already in therapy because of something else. Thank you.

Question #19:
Is my 6 month kitten pregnant?!?
So I have a kitten that 6 months old. She had not been spayed yet and about 3 weeks ago she got outside on accident during the night. I don't know how long she was out there. I don't think she has been in heat yet, but I read that kittens cats can still get pregnant even if they're in heat. I also read that 3 weeks pregnant, cats start showing like their nipples become pinker and they become more calm and affectionate. My kitten has always been extremely affectionate since we got (every time you pet her she starts purring). She has also been VERY playful like all kittens. Her diet has increased but I don't know if she is just growing or if she is actually pregnant. My family is trying to get her the vet to get her spayed but we haven't got to it yet? Could my kitten be pregnant? Thank you for any information in advance!Question #20:
Why is it so hard to become Vegan?
Ok, so here we go....About 6 months ago I saw a video online called "Meet your Meat". It was an old, but still very current video about how animals are raised and slaughtered for food, or raised and used for egg and milk production. I was absolutely disgusted. I'm a big meat eater, and I looove milk, but after seeing that, I looked up a dozen more videos on Youtube showing the more current treatment of animals for slaughter. I also researched what the FDA approves for meat standards. Frankly, animals with cancer, wounds, infections and such being use to feed my belly is not appealing to me. I no longer wish to take part in the market that provides me steaks, or wings from an animal with cancer or any other such diseases.
I tried going Vegan, no meat, or even animal products. I found it very enjoyable. It was rather difficult for an avid meat eater like me to find full meals I could make, but none the less I enjoyed what I did manage to eat. My problem was I was only eating a lot of veggies, nuts, fruits, ect. I also found eating no animal products meant buying more veggies and fruits and such which increased my monthly food bills.
After a week or two of happily munching on Vegan foods, I found myself to be lightheaded, dizzy, a little confused and not able to think clearly. I got concerned about the lack of protein in my diet, but could not figure out how to get it, and so I gave up. As soon as I started eating meat, a day later I was feeling much better.
Now, I know there are proteins humans need to survive, and that meat offers all of them, but there are beans and many other none animal products that contain these proteins. I just wanted to know if anyone could help me by suggesting to me these food items and also any further information on how to eat better on a vegan diet.
Another reason that fuels my desire to figure out how to eat vegan for life is due to my weight. Im about 110lb overweight and this weight is based on me eating tons of steak, burgers, jerky, bacon, milk and egg products and did I mention jerky? :) I certainly didn't get fat off Asparagus. Yum! :P
I know not everyone likes eating Vegan, and everyone has a right to eat whatever they want. I'm not here to say vegan is the way to go or anything like that. I just feel it is the best choice for me. It will better reflect my love for animals, my demand for good quality foods, and help me be healthier.
I shop at Meijer and Walmart for food and its almost impossibly to find vegan stuff there. When I find the vegan cheese or meat patties for burgers they have egg or milk in them. So much for being vegan foods!!!! So a suggestion for what kinds of stores to shop at too would be much appreciated.
I hope someone can help me. I look forward to being able to continue eating vegan without being lightheaded or confused. lol
