Question #1:

4 year long relationship coming to a brutal end?

I have been in a relationship with this man for 4 years. In that time, we have never had sex. He is 36, I am 26. We fool around all the time but he has issues getting aroused. He claims that this is because of his type 2 diabetes, but no matter what we do, nothing seems to work. He takes his medication, excersises regularly and eats a healthy diet. I love this man and I want to marry him and have a family but I just dont know if I can go my whole life never having sex with him. In my previous relationships I have always been a very active person sexually and now after 4 years I dont know what to do. Every time I bring it up he seems to get defensive and depressed.

I dont know if I should stay with him and just come to terms with never having sex with him or if there is maybe something I could do (treatments, remedies, therapy???).

I guess my question would be id this would be a deal breaker for other women?
He has tried Viagra, medication, pumps, and all sorts of things. I knew about this problem the first year we started dating and I thought I would be able to deal with it. Now I realise that it may be a problem for me. He does please me sexually but there has never been penetration.

Question #2:

How dio I get my sister to lose weight?

Good afternoon everyone!

I am in a bit of a predicament. My little sister and I are pretty close, although we only met 4 years ago. I am 21 yo, shes 16. Shes a great girl. Very smart, well spoken, and has a pretty face. The thing is, she really needs to lose weight.

When we first met she commented that she felt like the "fat" sister, I assured her that all she had to do was watch her diet and work out daily, plus, at that time, she wasnt that big. Really, she was "thick".

We fell out of contact for a while and I just saw her again recently, after a 2 year hiatus.

She. is. huge.

She is morbidly obese, extremely large.

I didnt even know what to say when i saw her, so i didnt say anything. I am so pissed about this because its obvious that she doesnt like her body; shes always talking about how much she hates her body. But for some reason, no one will sit her down and tell her to shape up. I hate to place blame, but ill do it anyway. Its her mothers fault. Her mother is, herself, morbidly obese - about 400lbs at 5'3''. Instead of making sure her daughter doesnt follow down the same unhealthy path, she stocks the fridge with sodas, pies and fried chicken.

Her mother once told me a story about how she would give my sister PIGS FEET at 9 months old. When I heard that I wanted to slap her in the face. Why would you do that to your own child? Its not even the fact that it tastes terrible, but pigs feet is 99.9% pure fat! Its like she crippled my sister before she even had a chance.

My sister has never had a boyfriend, never had a date, and generally feels like s.hit all the time. Her personality is stellar, and her face is to die for, but you know how boys that age are, they dont even look her way. It really gets to her self esteem.

Her mother tells her that she should just be happy with her body the way it is, and she should be. But at some point the rose colored shades have got to come off. She is currently 5'6'', 275lbs. Its just not healthy, and if no one else is gonna tell, I guess its gonna have to be me.

Now if you cant already tell, I dont sugar my thoughts. I just got out of the army and am still getting used to not being so "blunt" about my thoughts. How do I tell her to put the cinnabon down and strap on an ankle-weight? I dont want to make her feel any worse about herself than she already does, but then again, maybe that will light the fire under her arse...

I dont want to tell her and make her start crying or get all emotional, you know how teenage girls can be. I just want to sit down and a have a calm conversation with her, telling her the truth.
How does this sound:

"Hey we need to talk. I know its a sensitive topic for you, but you really need to lose weight; It just isnt healthy, your size. Its not "thick" its just obese. Im not judging you or anything, because I was in your shoes right after I had my son. But I worked out and lost my weight; you just cant sit around and let your body collect fat like that. Do you have any clue what that does to your body? Your skeletal system? Your mind? When a person is morbidly obese, physiological factors begin to tune in, and then its all down hill from there. If you keep gaining weight, or even just stay at your current size, you probably wont make 50. Especially being black, high blood pressure and diabetes are damn near inevitable when you add obesity to the mixture.

Like i said, im not judging you, but I feel that as your sister I owe you the truth. And the truth is that you are killing yourself with your lifestyle. I love you and I just want you to be healthy and love yourself. You say that boys dont ask you out, and youve told me yourself that you think you weight is a key factor in that. Why not get up and do something about that? I'll go to the gym with you, we can work out together, I'll teach you about carbs & proper serving sizes. Just please let me help you."

What do you think?

Question #3:

Question #5:

Poll for moms who had gestational diabetes?

1.) How did you control your GDM while you were pregnant (strictly diet, diet and insulin pill, or insulin shot)
2.) How many prenatal visits per week did you have to go to to check on your baby
3.) How many weeks ahead was you baby measuring when you found out you had GDM
4.) Did you doctor induce you before your due date and if so how many weeks before your due date. If not did they let you go the full 40 weeks?
5.) Did you have a natural birth or a c-section
6.) How big was your baby when he/she was born
7.) Did your baby have any complications after delivery (jaundice, hypoglycemia, ect)

When I found out I had GDM at 27 weeks my son was measuring 2 weeks ahead and by 34 weeks he was measuring full term at about 7.5lbs
I controlled my GDM with diet at first but I lost 10lbs and my doctor was concerned so he told me to eat normal and gave me the glyburide insulin pill. I still continued to cut all sugary products from my diet.
My doctor originally planned to induce me at 39 weeks but my son decided to come at 38 weeks instead and I had to have a c-section becuase he was breached
When my son was born he weighed 8lbs and 3oz and 19 inches long. My doctor said had I gone all 40 weeks my son probably would have weighed 10lbs
My son was also born with hypoglycemia a.k.a low blood sugar so he had to be feed every hour right after birth to bring his levels up but he was okay after that.

Please share with me your stories. Thanks. ;-)
Doodlestuff, I didn't ask for your opinion. I asked for facts about your birthing experience and pregnancy with GDM, not preexisting diabetes. Since you haven't even had your baby yet this pool doesn't pertain to you. I honestly didn't want to here your little rant about what a bad doctor I had so keep it to yourself next time. k.

Question #6:

Anyone out there that's had a diabetic cat, can you recommend a good cat food?

I took my 10 yr old siamese mix into the vet recently for a rabies shot and checkup. The vet decided to do a senior blood panel on her just to make sure she's doing ok since she's getting a bit older. Everything looked fine except her blood sugar which was 302. They advised i follow up with them for a glucose curve and further testing. Well i went back to the vet today and they drew a 2nd random glucose and it was 235 after 8 hours fasting so the vet said that she may be at the very beginning stages of diabetes. My vet thinks we may be able to control her sugars with a simple diet change to a diabetic cat food. He sent me home with a bag of prescription Purina for diabetic cats but i haven't opened it yet becausee i absolutely hate Purina. They use corn gluten and several other fillers and by products i am not happy with. Can anyone recommend a better quality diabetic food? My vet says after 3-4 weeks on the new food we will come back in and do another random glucose and if its better we will manage her with food, if not we'll do a glucose curve and possibly start her on insulin. Any recommendations for a good diabetic cat food would be appreciated. thanks..
She's currently eating Blue Buffalo but it's only about 30% protien and the Purina DM they gave me today is 50%. I looked at the Blue Buffalo WIlderness line but they only have 40% protien so i don't think that will work. So any suggestions will be appreciated.

Question #7:

Could i have diabetes at 17?

I am 17, female, and type 2 diabetes runs on my dad's side of the family.
Lately i wouldn't think that i've been using the bathroom more, but i do use it on a schedule.
What's been worryine me is, on school days i eat breakfast at around 4:30 to 5:00 am. my 2nd block starts at 9 and during that class my hands get really cold and shaky, but i don't feel like i'm hungry. i have been drinking too much soda lately, and i need to stop because my biggest fear is that i will get diabetes, especially at my age.
Can someone also help me with tips for my diet to help prevent type 2 diabetes?

Question #8:

Working Out Making Me Fatter?

I eat a balanced diet due to my Diabetes.

I don't want to lose weight, just get really toned.
So at night I spend 1 hour doing lunges, crunches, sit ups, etc.

But I always look the same? My stomach/legs never get more toned, etc. HELP?

Question #9:

Possibly juvenile diabetes?

My 5 yr old niece may be diagnosed with juvenile diabetes this week. She went to the hospital sick and throwing up she had pneumonia and they checked her blood sugar because she had ketones in her urine and it was 209 (she had been eating popsicles and gatorade) so they put her on a sugar free diet and kept checking her sugars. It dropped down to normal and they released her from the hospital but they said she still needs a glucose test. Is it likely that she has it but it can be contolled with diet? They aren't giving her any sugar until after the test. Is there a chance that she doesn't have it? We are all scared for her. Part of one of her lungs doesn't work due to having been born a micropremie. 1 lb 11 oz and she is prone to catching what anyone else has. She also has AD/HD which 90% of premature babies get diagnosed with and seems to be under control. She has often complained of her heart hurting and the doctors did EKG tests, etc. but never at the time when she said it hurt. Oddly, at the time her sugar was high, she was saying it hurt and her heart rate was fast. Has anyone else had that experience? Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I also have PCOS which makes it almost impossible to lose weight.
I have a very restricted diet because of my celiac. And I work out a minimun of 3 hours a day, and that doesnt include my swim team practice. I am a USS national swimmer and 20 yrs old.

Question #11:

Home made dog food-any "recipes"?

My dog loves cooked food. She hates dry food, although I buy her a good brand.
Some people believe that dry food is the best solution, because it is formulated to have the nutrients a dog needs.
Some other people believe that fresh high quality ingredients that we'd eat ourselves is the healthiest solution.
I give both opinions some basis. So I want to combine them, by cooking some food and adding some kibble in it, or giving her some cooked meals and some kibble when I don't have time or ingredients to cook for her.
However, I want to make sure she gets the nutrients necessary in her cooked diet. What would you suggest? I cooked her chicken+chicken livers+rice today. With a few peas in it too. One day I had added pasta instead of rice.
How much rice or pasta is allowed so that she doesn't have diabetes problem? How much and what type of veg should I add?
NOTE: 1. I know what foods are poisonous and must not be given, so don't tell me.
2. I also know some people suggest raw food and bones, but I won't do this so don't tell me to do that.

Question #12:

What is the life expectancy of a type 1 diabetic with a history of poor diet and limited physical activity?

My mother in law is type 1 diabetic and has been for the past 25 years. I know that with the proper diet and exercise and the right medications, that many people with diabetes can live a long and healthy life just like an individual without diabetes. I am wondering how much of toll it takes on a diabetic's body when there are constant extreme highs and extreme lows in blood sugar? My mother in law has only recently decided to use the automated insulin pump in this past year, and is not very diligent about sticking to a low fat, low calorie and low sodium diet. She exercises some but not much because she gets tired quite easily and says her joints hurt her.She is 60 years old and seems to be doing ok so far...I would love for her to be around longer for my children, and I try to be as polite as possible in pointing out that a healthier lifestyle will help her live longer, but I would like to see if I can point her towards some more concrete information that will help her out. Thank you!

Question #13:

Is it dangerous for a person to have 4-5 hypos per week?

My mum has type 1 diabetes and has done for 25 years. Usually she controls it well and has maybe 1 bad hypo per month along with 3 or 4 milder ones. Recently though she's started on this stupid diet where she is eating 1 yoghurt for breakfast, 2 pieces of fruit for lunch then not eating again until we have dinner as a family. This is not enough for her (she has a stressful job and walks a lot) and so she's having a hypo most days, usually when she gets back from work. This happens 4 or 5 times a week and I'm worried that having so many hypos per week (her blood sugar is usually 2.5 or below) is dangerous? Can it do her permanent damage? I'm really worried about her.

Question #14:

Wound not healed. What else can I do?

At the end of June I had surgery to drain a hematoma that had become infected. I had a wound vac for a while, which helped shrink the wound significantly. When I got the wound vac off, the wound was about 5 cm deep and now, more than a month later, the opening is much narrower (only about 1 cm) but the depth has not changed much at all.

Here are the things I am doing: Cleaning and changing the dressing on my wound twice a day, eating protein with every meal, eating lots of vegetables, cutting sugar from my diet, walking a few times a week, taking a prenatal vitamin and vitamin C (at the recommendation of my doctor), trying to get a full night's sleep each night. I don't have diabetes or any other blood sugar issues.

I am so frustrated. I was very active before this happened, and am eager to get back to my normal lifestyle. I read that scrubbing a wound could destroy the granulated tissue, keeping it from healing. Is there any truth to this? Is it normal for a wound to close in width before depth? What else can I do? Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Question #15:

Question #16:

My health versus babies health? Breast & formula feeding moms: Would you take the risk?

Good evening. Thanks for reading my question. I'm a 38 year old married lady with two children. I have a 7 year old son, and an almost 6 year old daughter. I'm also pregnant with twins. My son was born at 33 weeks. He was in the NICU for 23 days. He had an extremely difficult time nipple feeding. My milk didn't come in until he was 10 days old. By then my breasts had become so engorged with milk that I had developed mastitis. I was in a lot of pain. I was also on anti-depressants back then. The medication I took ended up in breast milk. IF I had given my son breast milk, the doctors were concerened that the medication would make him to lethargic. He was having a lot of apnea/bradicardia episodes when he was nipple feeding. So I opted to leave him on formula. Now he's a healthy & happy 7 year old boy. Our little girl is adopted, so I didn't have to go through that with her.

I'm facing pretty big obstacles with my health. I have HPV, Diabetes, PCOS, and Celiac Disease. The strain of HPV that I have causes cervical cancer. My strain does end up in breast milk, and can cause throat lesions for a newborn baby. Click Here
I'm a strict diet controlled diabetic, and I'm very careful about what I eat.
I have PCOS, and I've recently learned that women with my disorder have a difficult time with milk supply. Click Here
The Celiac Disease is taken care of with a strict gluten, corn, casein, soy, lactose, fructose free diet.

Just the thought of transmitting HPV to my babies is scary enough. I'm having an elected c-section to avoid any possible transmission. However, there are still parts of my being that say to give my babies breast milk. But the risk is to great. I cry every time I think about this. One of my best friends is a lactation consultant with 20+ years of experience. She's never really dealt with a mom with so many health issues before. She has suggested that since I have a lot going on, to just skip breast feeding & pumping. And go straight for the bottle & formula. I'm extremely sad that I won't be able to give my babies the best nutrition out there. We can't afford to buy milk from the milk bank either. My husband doesn't want me to breast feed at all, because of my own health issues. And the possible transmission of HPV to our children. What is your best advice breast & formula feeding moms? Would you take the risk?
Oh definitely, I'm a big cuddler with my 7 & 5 year old. Lots of affection, hugs and kisses. I'm a 100% hands on kind of mom.
There are over 100 strains of HPV. Only 6 of them are considered "high risk". I have strain/type 16, which is considered "high risk", and it does end up in breast milk.
I don't have the strain of HPV that causes warts or herpes.
We CAN'T afford donor milk.

Question #17:

Does anyone know of any good and tasty recipes or restaurants that are good for people with diabetes?

My family has to change our diet. So any answers or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Question #18:

Glucose in urine = definetly diabetec?

Hello,
During my 24 weeks antenatal appointment, for the first time glucose was found in my urine. It was 4+ (four pluses).
My bump has been measuring spot on and the baby seemed of normal size during the 20 weeks anomaly scan.
I went for a fasting glucose test (not the tolerance test, they just drew one blood sample from me after fasting overnight). So the result will be back by next Thursday but as you can imagine, i'm already concerned about how it'll affect my baby and I and have already started reviewing my diet.
So could the glucose in my urine be simply the result of my breakfast?
Is 4 ++++ glucose quite high?
How likely is it that it's going to be gestational diabetes? Could it be something else?

Thank you so much in advance for your advice!

Question #19:

I need help, I'm sick but I'm not sure what it could be.?

I'm female, 16 years old, not on any medications. I've been experiencing blackouts, I think. I don't believe it's really blackouts just maybe forgetfulness? I forget sometimes what I've done earlier, this has been happening for a few months now. I often stand up and feel lightheaded, maybe you know the feeling of like a buzzing in your ears after becoming light headed? It's almost like when you try and stand and you're totally wasted kind of feeling, I feel like I need to sit down again.I also have a lot of back/neck pain, since before school let out. Lately (few days ago) I've been experiencing flu like symptoms: runny nose, dry throat, nausea, again lightheadedness and also abdominal pain(frequent). I've been exposed to the forest fire smoke, and I did spend some time outside before I started feeling sick. I'm relatively healthy, I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and try to keep a healthy diet. My Dads family has history of diabetes, I've been tested before but I'm healthy. And my Mom smokes around me often (she also smoked when she was pregnant with me). I don't drink often, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't take contraceptives. I know I should go to the hospital but my parents are both out of town, one for another 3 days and the other for probably 2-3 weeks. Normally if I were really worried I'd ask my sister to take me to the hospital but she moved across the country just 3 weeks ago, I really just need to know if anyone thinks I should be worried, and if so should I wait another 3 days to go to the hospital?
I'm positive I'm not pregnant, I can't be.
And I've had problems with not being able to sleep, that could be completely unrelated though. I also often can't sleep well when I'm sick.

Question #20:

PCOS, diabetes, HPV and breast feeding?

Good morning thanks for reading my question. I'm pregnant, and I have PCOS, diabetes, celiac disease & HPV (type 16). My 7 year old son was born at 33 weeks, and my milk didn't come in until he was 10 days old. He had an extremely difficult time nipple feeding. By the time he could have fed at the breast it was already to late. He had to stay on the bottle. He was 100% formula & bottle fed. I don't want to do that again. I want to breast feed this time.
I've been doing extensive research on PCOS, diabetes, HPV and breast feeding,

Many women with PCOS are NOT successful, because of the severe hormone imbalance. I'm a strict diet controlled diabetec. Health wise, I can't eat more then what I am suppose to, to support a breast feeding baby. There have been many reports that HPV type 16 & 22 end up in the breast milk, and is passed to a baby. I've read a few reports about glucophage helping out, herbs, diet etc. But everything I've seen seems to be contraindicated for women with PCOS, because it affects hormones. My hormones are stable, my weight is stable, and so is my blood sugar.

There are so many unknown factors with my own health. I've spoken to a few VERY reputable lactation consultants. They have all said that with my health issues, that I should just go with formula. But my heart tells me to take the risks. I am so confused. Anyone have any experience with what I'm going through. I sure would like to hear from you.
