Answer #1:

Well I was a vegetarian for two years and during that time I became a lot more lean. You could check out some vegetarian recipes...some aren't too bad!

You just have to make sure that you are balancing out the exercise with appropriate foods to replenish your body's needs.

Answer #2:

Eat less pastas and eat brown/whole grain versions of them instead.

Hey Panda, how about changing for a while from white rice to brown rice and chew each mouthful at least 32 times?
Bran and oatmeal are fiber carbs, which means they pass through your intestinal tract and pushes other foods along and can make you feel full yet help you lose weight.

My Asian friends who stay slimmest eat five or six times a day. They don't eat a lot at each meal, but they don't go long between eating meals with small snacks that are nourishing like pickled vegetables or small portions of fruit. Their meals contain little meat and lots of fiber and fresh sauteed vegetables. Then fruit for desert that has natural fiber in it. They rarely consume cheese or milk products. Although most do eat meat, their first choice of meat seems to be fish.
And when they fry foods they select coconut oil for their oil when possible.
This could help you too. It helps me. Good luck!

Heres one recipe I like that you might enjoy supplied to me by "Winter Is Coming" when I asked for a green curry recipe. Delicious.

This Green Curry recipe features beef but could also be prepared with chicken, pork, fish or just tofu. If sweet basil leaves are not available, you may substitute European basil, or leave it out altogether. You can serve this dish accompanied with a cooling soup, like Glass Noodle Soup (Gaeng Joot), stir-fry or steamed vegetables, and of course steamed jasmine rice.

Ingredients

* 400 grams beef (a little less then 1lb.)
* 3 tbsp green curry paste (see green curry paste recipe or use prepared curry paste)
* 2 1/2 cups coconut milk (1 1/2 cans Chaokoh brand coconut milk or squeezed out from 400 grams grated fresh coconut)
* 5 small fresh Thai eggplants, quartered
* 2-3 fresh red spur chilies, sliced diagonally
* 2 kaffir lime leaves, torn
* 1/4 cup sweet basil leaf (optional)
* 1 1/2 tbsp fish sauce
* 1 1/2 tsp palm sugar
* 1 tbsp cooking oil (not olive oil, but corn, safflower cocoanut or peanut oil)
* Sweet basil leaves and red chili slices for garnish

Preparation

1. Slice the beef into thin pieces, about about 1/3" (3 cm) thick.
2. Saute the green curry paste in oil over medium heat until fragrant, reduce the heat, gradually add 1 1/2 cups of the coconut milk a little at a time, stir until a film of green oil surfaces.
3. Add the beef and kaffir lime leaves, continue cooking for 3 minutes until fragrant and the beef is cooked through. Transfer to a pot, place over medium heat and cook until boiling. Add the remaining coconut milk, season with palm sugar and fish sauce. When the mixture returns to the boil add the eggplants. Cook until the eggplants are done, sprinkle sweet basil leaves and red chilies over, then turn off the heat.
4. Arrange on a serving dish and garnish with sweet basil leaves and red chilies before serving.

Wow that must be hard! Personally, I love white rice and pasta, I do sometimes switch it up for whole grain versions to try to be a little more health conscious. My other favorite grain is morrocan pasta cous-cous (they also make spinach and tomato versions), that you might want to ask your sergeant about.

Here are some simple solutions to help you avoid carbs and fats....

*You may find beans or legumes (lentils) to be filling and they usually can satisfy a carb craving.
*Use lettuce to make wraps instead of using bread or tortillas.
*I add canned black beans to tuna salad and serve over spinach, instead of making a sandwich.
*Use salsa as an alternative to fatty salad dressings or mayo, or to dip veggies in.
*Lastly, have you ever tried spaghetti squash??

It is a squash that when cooked the insides look like spaghetti strands. It can even be served the same way as pasta. I throw a whole one in a baking dish with about 2-4 cups of water in the bottom of the pan. Bake at 350 degrees, for an hour half way through I turn it over. And after it cools, scoop out the seeds and with a fork you can scoop out the "spaghetti" from the shell. I'll either serve it with a little butter, salt and pepper, and parm cheese, or covered in tomoato sauce.

Here is an Italian lentil recipe....

Lentils with tomatos

Ingredients
1 quart water 1 cup dry lentils 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 medium green bell pepper, 2 cups of raw spinach, chopped 1 medium onion, 1 clove of garlic (minced), 2 1/2 cups peeled, seeded, and chopped tomatoes salt and pepper to taste
Directions
In a pot, bring the water to a boil, and stir in the lentils. Reduce heat, and simmer 20 minutes; drain.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and saute the spinach, green bell pepper and onion, and garlic until tender. Mix in the tomatoes, and season with salt and pepper. Stir in the lentils, reduce heat, and simmer 25 to 30 minutes, until the lentils are tender.

Good Luck to you, I hope I was helpful!
